Join a lively discussion group focused on history! Members are asked to read a book or article on the monthly topic and be prepared to tell the group about it, or just listen and learn. New members are welcome to join and experience history from many points of view on one topic - no other history book club offers this unique approach!

September Topic: Music: Reflection on the Times
In Person/Zoom Hybrid Meeting.

(Amid rising COVID-19 cases across the state, Mayor Paul Brodeur announced that masks will be required in all municipal buildings beginning Monday, August 16th. Masks must be worn by all employees and visitors.)

Everyone is welcome, whether they read a book and want to share or they just want to listen and learn!

The topic for September is Music: Reflection on the Times.  Participants should choose a nonfiction title focusing on how music can be a reflection on a time period and be ready to share with the group.  The roaring twenties and the advent of jazz, the psychedelic rock of the 1960’s, the big hair bands of the 1980’s – these musical movements were more than just sound bites on history’s turntable but often rooted in social, political, and cultural signs of the times.  This topic can be approached by genre, era or even musician!

Need help finding a book?  Checkout a sampling of Melrose-owned books available through the library.  When in doubt, please contact the library (melref@noblenet.org or 781-665-2313).  The library is once again open to patrons, no appointments needed so come roam the stacks!  Alternatively, the library also offers e-books and e-audiobooks through Overdrive/Libby and Hoopla.

The in person meeting will take place on the main floor in the Dennis J. Kelley Room, located off of the main check out area.  For those not able to attend in person, we will offer remote access via Zoom to try a hybrid format for the September meeting.  Regardless of how you will be attending, please sign up below so the library can accommodate all those planning to participate.
